Program Philosophy
"Any opponent who beats me will have to pay the physical price." Andrea Agassi
Vision
To create and sustain an environment in which student-
atheletes are challenged spiritually, physically, mentally,
emotionally and relationally, while simultaneously providing
opportunities for growth in these areas.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Sterling College tennis
program is to provide collegiate tennis players with an opportunity to
compete and explore their potential. We believe that the only way to
achieve this is through a holistic approach. A dynamic mixture of
mental tuffness, physical endurance, spiritual sensitivity, emotional
stability and relational maturity is vital to success on the tennis
court and beyond. Thus, the program is not result oriented. Rather,
dedication to ones craft and managing all the little details of life
necessary for success. Let us not forget, tennis is a life-long sport
and is really fun to!
Warrior Tennis Core Values
Open & Honest Communication - "Speaking the truth in Love"
1 Peter 3:10 - "For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from decietful speech."
Discipline - "before we conquer the world, we must conquer ourselves." (Sanders, 1994)
Hebrews 12:11 - "All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness."
Integrity - "Who we are, when no one is looking"
Proverbs 10:9 - "He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways shall be found out."
"Integrity commits itself to character over personal gain, to people over things, to service over power, to principle over convenience, to the long view over the immediate." (Maxwell, 1999)
Development - "a commitment to excellence in all of life"
2 Peter 1:5-7 - "For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness, and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness, love.
"Two things especially further improvement--to withdraw ourselves violently from those things to which human nature is immortally inclined, and to work earnestly for the virtue that we most want." (Thomas a'Kempis)
Worship - "Made to Worship" (Rowden, 2007)
Colossians 3:16-17 - "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the father through him."
"To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God. All of this gathered together in adoration is worship."
