Brazelton and Goodrich Lead Warriors to Victory
January 13, 2011
Sterling, Kan. - Two Sterling College Warrior men's basketball players recorded double-doubles in the Gleason Center on Thursday night in a 75-55 Warrior victory over the Ottawa University Braves. Cody Brazelton recorded his fourth straight double-double and sixth double-double of the season by leading the Warriors in both points with 18 and rebounds with 12. Zach Goodrich also had a double-double for SC with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Ottawa jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in the first half, forcing the Warriors to battle early. Sterling would tie the game 13-13 at the 10:30 mark and then Sterling's Raheem Odomes took over the rest of the half. Odomes scored 11 points in the game, all in the first half. At halftime, the Warriors had built their lead to 43-29 over the Braves.
Sterling would continue to build the lead in the second half, attacking the basket and hitting open jumps shots. The lead would increase to 20 points at the 16:30 mark of the second half, and the teams would trade baskets from that point on. The final score would be a 20 point difference with Sterling winning 75-55.
Brazelton, Goodrich, and Odomes would be the only players for SC to score in double figures. Trent Stutzman and Kenny McGrath would add eight points apiece.
Corey Smith led Ottawa in scoring with 18 points and Larry Barber added 11.
With the win, Sterling improves to 9-8, 5-2 in the KCAC. The Warriors currently sit in a five-way tie for first place atop the KCAC. On Saturday, SC gets a chance to knock one of those five teams out of the first place tie when they play Bethel College in the Gleason Center at 7:00 pm.
