This past weekend at the Christmas Classic Tournament, the debate team captured first place in parliamentary debate as well as Lincoln-Douglas debate. The tournament was held at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., on Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
The Sterling College Debate Team took first place this past weekend at the Sunflower Swing Tournament on October 21-23. The tournament was hosted by Sterling College and co-hosted with Bethel College on the Bethel campus in North Newton, Kan.
The Sterling College Debate Team won the Debates on a Plain Invitational Tournament for the 4th consecutive year. The team captured 1st place overall, with more than a 60 point advantage over the 2nd place team, Cameron University. Sterling College advanced four out of their five doubles teams to the elimination rounds, amassing an overall record of 22-10. Team members also competed in the forensics portion, or individual events, of the tournament with Jessica Brayton capturing 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking.
The Sterling College debate team beat regional rival and third in the nation Texas Tech en route to a first place finish at the Cameron University Christmas Classic tournament hosted December 3-4 in Lawton, Okla. This win helped the Sterling College team secure a ranking of 13th in the nation.
The Sterling College Debate team recently returned from a multi-state tour of national tournaments. This marks the most successful debate season in Sterling’s school history with a 9th place finish in overall team sweepstakes at the National Parliamentary Debate Tournament, held in Colorado Springs, Colo., from March 16 through March 20 at The Colorado College.
Continuing their record setting season, the Sterling College Debate team successfully hosted the State Collegiate Championship Tournament on February 18-19, and captured yet another state title. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Sterling Debate team has captured
