Sterling College Athletic Director Andy Lambert announced today the hiring of Jenny Ellis as Head Volleyball Coach for the Lady Warriors.
“We are pleased to announce the hiring of Jenny as the head coach of our volleyball program,” Lambert said. “Jenny brings some great strengths to our volleyball program and will be a great person to have in our department. Her and her family are also going to be great additions to our community.”
Nearly twenty members of the Sterling College faculty met in late November for the first monthly Faculty Lunchtime Worldview Discussion. Tom Bronleewe, professor in the Theology and Ministry Department, presented on the topic of worldviews in the American culture.
On December 10th and 12th , 2008, kindergarten students at Sterling Academy, a public charter school located on the Sterling College campus, listened to stories about an alligator that learns sportsmanship, a little girl who is inspired by art to discover her creativity, a boy who wins a trip to Brazil and begins to respect the geography and culture of other countries, and a sister and brother who help the local baker frost a lemon cake and learn about his homeland Italy while they work.
The worship at the Sterling College chapel on December 10, 2008, didn’t involve singing or Scripture reading or a planned performance. It didn’t even involve words. Instead, the Enacted Prayer team at Sterling shared their ministry with the rest of the student body, presenting prayer in a new and unique way.
Sterling College women’s basketball coach, Lonnie Kruse, is just one win shy of reaching the 600 victory mark at his alma mater.
Kruse, in his 28th year at Sterling, has led the Lady Warriors to a 16-3 start this season and a current #7 national ranking in NAIA Division II.
STERLING, Kans., -- Sterling College head women’s basketball coach Lonnie Kruse reached the 600th win of his career Saturday night when the Lady Warriors downed Bethel College 100-55 in North Newton, KS.
Sterling left little to doubt Saturday night as they shot 57% from the field and 58% from behind the three point arc in their lopsided win over the Threshers. Sterling was led in scoring by freshman Megan Patrick with 18 points, while senior Ashley Kraft added 15.
STERLING, Kans., --Sterling College will be honoring Head Coach Lonnie Kruse Saturday night January 31st. Kruse recently won his 600th career game over Bethel College and became the fifth coach in NAIA women’s basketball history to collect 600 wins.
Sterling will honor Kruse at halftime of the men’s game this Saturday versus Ottawa University. The women’s game will tip off at 5:00pm with the men following at approximately 7:00pm. Many former SC women’s basketball players and special guests are expected to be in attendance.
Sterling College senior Jonathan Woods was named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference “Player of the Week” after helping lead the Warriors to big wins over Kansas Wesleyan University and Ottawa University last week.
Woods, a 6’10 center, averaged 14.0 ppg. and 13.5 rrg. in Sterling’s two conference victories last week.
Sterling College will be hosting two receptions this week to introduce new President Dr. Paul Maurer to the surrounding communities.
The first reception will be held Thursday, Feb. 5 after the lady warrior’s home basketball game through halftime of the men’s game (7:30 to 9:00 pm) in the Gleason Center classroom. The second reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 6 at 9 to 11 am in Heritage Hall on the Sterling College campus.
