Sterling College Releases Spring 2009 Dean's List

Sterling College has named 150 students to its Dean’s List for the Spring 2009 semester. Criteria for the Dean’s List include the completion of at least twelve graded credit hours and a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.5 or better. The following students were named to the list.

Students to participate in SC's mission trip to Peru

Six Sterling College students and four SC employees will be traveling to Peru this summer on a short term mission trip. The team will be leaving on June 16 and staying for two weeks.

SC Hires Dr. Marvin Dewey as VP for Institutional Advancement

Luke Cureton hired to lead Sterling College Golf Team

Sterling College Athletic Director Andy Lambert announced today the hiring of Luke Cureton as head golf coach for the Warriors. Cureton will also assist with the men’s basketball program.
“We are pleased to announce the hiring of Luke as the head coach of our golf program,” Lambert said. “Luke is well known around the SC community and will be a great asset to our golf program and our athletic department.”

Sterling College Students Travel to Thailand

A team of five students and four alumni from Sterling
College in Sterling, Kansas, will leave on July 5 for Phuket, Thailand, for a
two-week mission trip.

While the team is in Thailand, they will be working with
Self Help and Empowerment, a Christian organization that helps women and
children trapped in the commercial sex trade.

Music Professor Brad Nix has Musical Compositions Performed and Published

During 2009 Dr.Brad Nix, Chair of the Music Department at Sterling College, has had two musical compositions accepted for publication and several others performed by high school, college, and church choral groups.

Sterling Hires New Student Accounts Coordinator

Sterling College has hired a new student accounts coordinator/accountant for its business office. Heidi Shantz comes to the College from Grace Bible Church in Hutchinson, where she has worked as an administrative assistant for nearly four years. Shantz has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Southwest Baptist University in Missouri.

On the day she planned to sign enrollment papers, she heard of Sterling College, 200 miles from Colby, and what she learned made her reconsider her decision.

Sterling College to Host 8th Annual Santa Fe Children’s Literature Festival

The 8th annual Santa Fe Trail: Children’s Literature Festival will be held at Sterling College on Thursday, September 17. Elementary and middle school students from Rice County, South Hutchinson, and Hutchinson will attend the event, which features Christopher Canyon, an award-winning children’s book illustrator, and Molly Levite Griffis, a writer who has twice won the Oklahoma Book Award.
