9:00 till 3:30 with ½ hour lunch as schedule allows 12:15-12:45.

Appointments are available for other times if necessary.
Some medical services will require an appointment because of the time needed for services.

Eligibility requirements : Any student enrolled in at Sterling college is eligible for basic health services through the Student
Health Center. The student health fee, which is included in the tuition each semester, allows the students to see the campus nurse free of charge. Students needing special services, procedures, laboratory tests, x-ray will need to see local medical providers. See the student health flyer for our services. With a few exceptions, treatment is free to all Sterling College students. Summer Services are not provided.

This is a nurse directed services. (This means triage evaluations and referrals as needed. Nursing evaluations based
On American College Health Association guidelines.)
Services are provided as walk in with emergency needs seen first.
Proactive health care and wellness programs are provided and help to encourage early interventions to prevent illness and injury.
Sterling Health Center will work with students’ home town Physicians per fax orders as legal and as needed.
Treatment and Medications available for: colds, sore throats, flu, allergies, burns, cough, some ear and eye problems, headache, insect bites, insomnia, minor lacerations, abrasions, lice, muscle pain, minor injuries, sprains, strains, rashes, sunburn, and blisters.
All supplies are from over the counter (OTC) sources. Students will be given a 1-2 day supply of products to help in their care to allow them time to purchase supplies or get medical services and appointments. There is a small supply of various over the counter medication available for purchase.

Service Provisions: Suture removal, blood pressure checks, apply, change and provide some dressings, ear wax buildup Give allergy shots, weight checks, basic eye exam, flu shots, and TB (tuberculosis) skin tests, consultation.

Lab services available July 07 will include Strep, Mono, UA, pregnancy tests and glucose tests under the CLIA waived Lab. Test.
Equipment Loans: Crutches, slings, vaporizers/humidifiers, heat packs, cold packs, ace bandages.

Refer Students: Sterling College has a nurse-directed health service. Students are referred to doctors, physician assistants, dentists, optometrists, and other medical services and specialties as needed.

References and Handouts: Computer generated and other health-related subjects such as: blood pressure, HIV (AIDS), STD's, weight reduction, exercises, special diets, back pain, quit smoking, breast cancer, tattoos and body art, and many more.

Recommendations for your dorm:
Bring a small first aid kit of your choice, thermometer, have a vaporizer or share one with dorm mates. Have an emergency light source, a small supply of bottled water, some canned soups or dry soup mixes , small supply of crackers, melba toast
For illness and any other medical supplies you normally have on hand.

Flu Vaccine for the year fall 08 will be the preservative free pre loaded syringe. Cost to the student is in the health fee so no addtional cost is required. We would like to know so we can reserve doses by July 15.

EXERCISE CENTER- EAST CAMPUS
THE UNDERGROUD PULSE

The Underground Pulse is located in the basement of the Health Center.
Hours are 24/7 with security code entrance only. Entrance is thru the back door where a security light with
Motion sensors for night use.

The exercise center began with the request for floor space to exercise by the girls in the dorms. This space was cleaned,
painted and supplied by a donation from the Douglas Family Foundation in Jan of 07. This is a free to students area of use.

The center contains 2 treadmill, 1 elliptical, 2 recumbent bikes, 2 upright bike, bow flex home gum, exercise balls, free hand weights, a TV with dvd/vhs player for Pilates, core exercises and other floor programs.
90 percent of the usage is by female students.
Students register for use and receive a code for their use.
Registered users are responsible to report any problems with equipment, to bring their own water and headsets as no
cable or music source is provided. The students are required to be responsible to leave the area in a clean condition.
Students are expected to log in so usage and improvement data will be available.
