Foster Family Program

Sterling College Student Life

Students:

  • Would you like to get to know a local family?
  • Would you like to have an occasional home-cooked meal or a place to do laundry?
  • Would you like to have a local family that attends to your sporting event, theatre production, choir concert, art show, etc. to support you?

If you said yes, you may be interested in signing up for a foster family.  Just look for the foster family sign-up form that will be placed in your campus mailbox within the first few weeks of class.  Fill it out and return it to the Student Life Office to be matched with a local family.

The Foster Family Program was created with the mission of helping new students better adjust to life at Sterling College. The service is available for new students but is not mandatory.

Foster families are Sterling College faculty/staff or community members who have a desire to be the student's home away from home. These families open their homes for the students in a variety of ways (i.e. meals, free laundry, attend church together, attend College activities, etc.).

New students will have an opportunity to sign up for a foster family in the first month of attending Sterling College. Once students have been matched with a foster family, Student Life will host a social event for students and foster families to come together, meet one another, and begin building relationships.

Community Members:

  • Would you like to provide a college student a home away from home?
  • Would you like to get to know students from a different part of the state or country?
  • Would you like to provide a "home-cooked" meal once in a while?
  • Would you enjoy having a college student spend time with your family?

If you said yes, you may be interested in serving as a foster family.

If you are interested in becoming a foster family for one or more SC students, email the administrative assistant, Melissa Virts, at mvirts@sterling.edu or call 620-278-4232.
