Projects and volunteers needed for 5th annual Love Sterling | March 18, 2014

 In order to show appreciation for the town of Sterling, on April 26, volunteers will assemble to complete service projects that give back to the community during the 5th annual Sterling College Love Sterling event.

Love Sterling is an event that began in 2010 as a way for the students, faculty and staff of Sterling College to show their appreciation for the community of Sterling.

SC theatre workshop continues despite weather conditions | March 5, 2014

The show must go on. Despite school cancellations and weather delays, nine schools attended Sterling College’s Theatre Workshop Day on March 3. Over 100 students participated in the day that included morning workshops and a matinee performance of “The Glass Menagerie.”

Shaw, Smith awarded spring 2014 Teachers of Promise | March 4, 2014

Sterling College seniors Heather Shaw of Sterling, Kan., and Kadi Smith of Julesburg, Colo., were named as the spring 2014 Teachers of Promise. Each semester, two candidates who are clinical teaching the following semester are recognized by Sterling College and the Kansas State Department of Education for their exemplary character, dedication and achievement.

SC Alumnus works with Harlem Globetrotters | March 4, 2014

When Jared Brown ’11 came to Sterling College to study athletic training, he had no idea where his major would lead him. Brown, who currently works at PT Plus Physical Therapy in Andover, Kan., just finished a month-long job working as an athletic trainer for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Phi Beta Lambda sells SC playing cards | February 26, 2014

The Sterling College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda has been hard at work to raise money for this year’s national competition in Nashville, Tenn. To raise funds, they have created and designed a custom deck of playing cards that feature photos of former Sterling College presidents, athletic teams, academic departments, buildings and campus clubs.

SC mourns the loss of Trustee Bruce Bryant ’71 | February 24, 2014

Sterling College Board of Trustee member Bruce Bryant ’71 of Libertyville, Ill., passed away this weekend after a battle with cancer. Bryant has been a trustee at the College since 2012.

“Bruce will be deeply missed. He was optimistic, good-natured, and always had a smile on his face. He cared about Sterling College and employees and students as if they were his own family. Bruce was a spiritual leader as well, praying for the College and providing us with wise counsel,” said President Scott Rich.

Dr. Randy Fahrenholtz ’72, NAC member, dies in a plane crash | February 24, 2014

Sterling College is saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Randy Fahrenholtz '72. Dr Fahrenholtz died in a plane crash on Saturday, February 22, 2014.

Dr. Fahrenholtz had been serving as the vice chair of the National Advisory Council for the past four years.

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of Dr. Fahrenholtz. He was a great NAC member, often challenging our thinking and bringing forth excellent discussion. He was a wonderful Sterling College alumni and a great physician. He will be greatly missed," said President Scott Rich.

"The Glass Menagerie" open Feb. 27 at Sterling College | February 19, 2014

The public will get its first chance to enjoy the new Culbertson Auditorium renovations at the Sterling College theatre department’s performance of “The Glass Menagerie.” The play, directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Matthew Winning, opens Thursday, Feb. 27, and runs through March 1. The box office will open on show nights at 7 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Young Sterling College debate team continues to surprise competition | February 18, 2014

Despite the loss of many seniors last year, the Sterling College debate team continues to surprise the competition by regularly advancing past larger, more seasoned teams. Junior Brandon Hoesli of Salina, Kan., has led the team with numerous bids to the final rounds of both Lincoln-Douglas debate and Parliamentary debate.
