Three Sterling College students perform recital | April 16, 2014

Sterling College students Mark Alan Hemphill, Kayla Van Nover and Cassidy Woodard will perform a joint recital at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. Hemphill will perform the first movement of Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto,” as well as some of his own compositions. Van Nover and Woodard will sing excerpts from musical theatre.

Dr. William Brown to speak at SC commencement | April 8, 2014

Dr. William Brown, chancellor of Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, will be the speaker for the 2014 Sterling College Commencement ceremony. He will be speaking about Matthew 25:14–18, and his message is titled “Slam Dunk Moments.” The ceremony will take place on May 17 at 9:45 a.m. on East Cooper Lawn on the campus of Sterling College. This event is open to the public.

SGA to host Red Cross blood drive | April 8, 2014

On Tuesday, April 15, the Sterling College Student Government Association will host their spring blood drive sponsored by American Red Cross. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be parked in the lot between Thompson Hall and the Student Union from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"The Great Divorce" to open April 11 | April 4, 2014

“The Great Divorce,” a play adapted from the C.S. Lewis novel, will show April 11–12 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the campus of Sterling College. The show will feature the final work of two seniors, director Kyle Davis of Hoisington, Kan., and costumes designer Megan Reed of Mulvane, Kan. The box office opens on show nights at 7 p.m. and doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Long-time professor, Dr. Curtis Beechan, set to retire | April 2, 2014

Dr. Curtis Beechan, professor of chemistry at Sterling College, announced his retirement at the end of the 2013-14 academic year. This May will mark the end of his 27th year of teaching at the College.

SC students prepare for graduate school interviews | March 27, 2014

On March 24, the Sterling College Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics hosted mock interviews for the junior and senior students in the department. The experience simulated an entrance interview to a graduate program or work place.

Mysterious package falls from sky | March 27, 2014

A small plane flying low over the Sterling College campus caught the attention of several onlookers recently. The plane piqued the interest of College students and employees as it dropped several rolls of toilet paper and a package.

Sterling College students volunteer in Delaware | March 26, 2014

Twelve students and staff members from Sterling College drove to Wilmington, Del., to participate in Christian missions during their spring break. Wilmington is the home of Urban Promise, a non-profit organization whose goal is to equip children and young adults with skills necessary for academic achievement, life management and personal growth.

SC students donate time in memory of Leake | March 26, 2014

When the cafeteria staff at Sterling College learned of the unexpected death of coworker Ben Leake, they wanted to give their respects by attending the funeral service. Unfortunately, there was not enough staff to serve lunch at the College and allow everyone to attend the funeral – until the students stepped in.

Sterling College places 2nd in JV National Debate Tournament | March 19, 2014

The Sterling College junior varsity debate and forensics season closed this weekend, adding additional trophies to the ever-growing display case in Spencer Hall. The team took second place at the JV National Debate Tournament held at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan., March 14-16.
