High school students attend art workshops at SC | February 20, 2013

Over 40 students and teachers from Kansas high schools came to Sterling College to participate in art workshops on Friday, Feb. 15. The students attended three workshops of their choice covering concept art, photo transfer, costumed figure drawing and pointillism painting. Workshops were led by Assistant Professors of Art Hanna Kozlowski-Slone and Daniel Swartz and Sterling College students.

Campus closed on Thursday, Feb. 21 | February 20, 2013

Dear SC Campus,

Due to the growing snow accumulations, the Sterling College campus will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 21. This means that all classes are cancelled and all campus offices will be closed at that time. The cafeteria will be open regular hours.

 

Jim Turner elected to Board of Trustees | February 19, 2013

Sterling College has elected Jim Turner ’62 of Topeka, Kan., as a member of its Board of Trustees during the winter board meeting held on Feb. 7-8.

Four-year graduation guarantee announced | February 14, 2013

Beginning with the freshman class of 2013, Sterling College is now offering an opportunity to incoming students that will ensure they can finish their degrees within four years. The Four-Year Guarantee was created so that any freshman who completes the set requirements will be able to graduate within the intended time frame. If a student meets all of the requirements and is not able to complete their degree in that period of time, Sterling College will pay the tuition it takes to finish.

Kansas Teachers of the Year present on campus | February 13, 2013

On Feb. 4, Sterling College students studying education had an opportunity to hear from the top professionals in the field when the Kansas Teacher of the Year team was hosted on campus. Both prospective and current education majors were given the chance to hear two separate presentations that were focused on strategies for teaching.

Burgess to speak at Convocation | February 8, 2013

Dr. Gloria J. Burgess will be the speaker for the annual Black History Month Convocation and her speech will be titled, “Make Your Life Count.” Burgess is a published author, motivational speaker, and CEO and president of her own business. The convocation will take place on Friday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus and will be open to the public.

Donation benefits theatre and sciences | February 7, 2013

Spencer Hall will undergo renovations this summer courtesy of an anonymous donation to Sterling College. The primary purpose of the donation is to upgrade the seating in Culbertson Auditorium with remaining funds given to the science department for lab equipment needs.

Debate Team captures first place | February 6, 2013

The debate and forensics team spent its last few weekends traveling to multiple competitions and tournament championships. The team captured two first place victories in its last three tournaments and celebrated many individual accomplishments as well.

Freeman Lecture Series to begin in 2014 | January 31, 2013

Beginning in 2014, a new lecture series will be offered by Sterling College thanks to the generosity of Ross and Fern Freeman of Topeka, Kan. The Freeman Lecture Series, as it will be called, was created for Sterling College to promote servant leadership. There will be two lectures per year, one held on campus and one in the Wichita area.
