Scholarships and Aid Programs
A Sterling College education is an investment in your future.
If Sterling College is the right decision for you, there is really no need to let cost stand in your way. Although Sterling is a private, Christian college, the cost to you of four years at Sterling is a lifetime investment. All fully admitted students of Sterling College receive financial aid.
The value of a Sterling education cannot be measured in dollars only. Sterling provides something that is priceless: a Christ-centered, quality, personalized education from dedicated faculty committed to helping you find your calling and realizing your personal and professional goals.
Sterling College Scholarships
Every student admitted to Sterling College receives a single Sterling College scholarship. For students not interested in participating in an activity, the Sterling College scholarship is based solely on academics. For arts students (theatre, communication, art, music) scholarships are based on arts interest and academic record. Student athletes are awarded scholarships designated by coaches in consideration of athletic potential and academic record.
National Merit Finalist. Students being named National Merit Finalists will receive a full tuition scholarship each year the student attends Sterling College.
College of Emporia Alumni Scholarships are sponsored by the C of E Alumni Association. Students should identify themselves to the financial aid office as being children or grandchildren of C of E alumni.
National Presbyterian College Scholarships. NPCS scholarships are competitive and are awarded only to entering first-year students who are communicant members of the Presbyterian Church (USA), however they are renewable. Applicants must take the ACT or SAT no later than December of their senior year in high school. Contact the Sterling College Financial Aid Office or pastor for further information.
Samuel Robinson Scholarships. These scholarships are available on a competitive basis to junior and senior students enrolled in any of the colleges related to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and are in the amount of $1000. Students memorize The Shorter Catechism and write an essay on an assigned topic. Further information can be obtained in the Financial Aid Office or Religion/Philosophy Department.
Park College Scholarship. Scholarship available to Presbyterian students who are accepted to Sterling College. This renewable scholarship requires a separate application and the FAFSA completed and submitted to Sterling College Financial Aid Office by April 1st. Details and Application (pdf)

State of Kansas Aid
Kansas Comprehensive Grant (KCG). State grants are available for qualified Kansas resident students. These grants, which range up to $3,000 per academic year, are determined by family size, financial resources, and educational cost. To be eligible, the students must demonstrate financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must also:
1. be a Kansas resident who has not received a baccalaureate degree;
2. meet the April 1 application deadline (FAFSA must be received by April 1);
3. be a full-time student, attending a fully accredited independent Kansas college; and
4. have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average at the end of each spring semester.

Each of these scholarship programs require a special application. Students are advised to contact their high school counselor or the Sterling College Financial Aid Office or Kansas Board of Regents(www.kansasregents.org) as soon as possible for details.
Other States
Many other states have tuition grant programs, and some allow the student to use the funds at an out-of-state school. Check with your high school counselor for further information.
Federal Aid
The College participates in all of the federally-funded financial aid programs. Only students who have completed the proper application procedure will be considered for assistance. Students must first be accepted for admission, and then complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
1. Federal Pell Grants are available from the federal government for students meeting certain financial need qualifications. Such grants are made to a maximum of $4,050 per year. The amount of the grant is determined by a federal formula and is based upon the family’s ability to assist with the student’s education cost. The amount of the grant is not controlled by the individual or the College.
2. Federal Work Study Program. Students demonstrating financial need can be employed on the campus in a variety of jobs. Positions are posted online the first day of fall semester classes and throughout the year thereafter.
3. Federal Subsidized And Unsubsidized Stafford Loans. Students with demonstrated financial need may apply online for Stafford Loans through Sterling College. Repayment begins six (6) months after graduation or withdrawal from school. The interest rate is variable. The maximum loan is $2,625 for first-year students, $3,500 for second-year students, and $5,500 for other undergraduates. Students have the right to cancel all or a portion of a loan or a disbursement of a loan. Applications are available at our student loans page.
4. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) are available from the federal government and are administered by Sterling College. They are awarded to those students who meet certain financial qualifications.
5. Federal Perkins Loans. Perkins loans can be granted by the College in amounts up to $4,000 per year based on validated financial need. Repayment need not begin until nine months after the borrower ceases to carry a minimum of six hours and must be completed within ten years thereafter. For teachers who teach in designated poverty areas, up to 100 percent of the principal and interest can be canceled.
6. Parent Loan For Undergraduate Students (PLUS). The Education Amendments of 1980 established a loan program for parents of dependent undergraduate students called Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students. Loans carry a variable interest rate. Parents have the right to cancel all or a portion of a loan or a disbursement of a loan. Applications are available at our student loans page.
7. Tribal Grants. Any student who is at least one-fourth American Indian, Eskimo, or Aleut as recognized by a tribal group served by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, may apply for a tribal grant. The amount is based on financial need and availability of funds from the area agency. Students must first submit an application for financial aid and supportive documents by the deadline.
