Lucas's Double-Double Leads Sterling Past Webber International

Babson Park, Fla. - Sterling College's women's basketball team completed the sweep on their two game road trip to Florida, defeating Webber International University 69-52 on Saturday night. Defense was the key again for Sterling in this ballgame, forcing Webber into 25 turnovers. Sterling turned those 25 turnovers into 26 points. The bench also played a big role for Sterling with the Lady Warrior bench outscoring Webber's bench 30-8.
The Lady Warriors jumped on Webber International quickly in the first half, going on a 9-0 run to start the game. That lead would get down to one point with five minutes left in the first half, but Sterling would never relinquish the lead. A late first half run capped off by a Madison Lucas bucket would allow SC to go into halftime leading by 12, 37-25. Laura Patrick and Lucas both had big first halves for Sterling. Patrick scored nine points, pulled down four rebounds, dished out three assists, and had a blocked shot. Lucas scored seven points and pulled down four rebounds.
In the second half, Webber would reduce the Sterling lead to five points on two different occasions, but Sterling would respond each time. Sterling would use a 14-0 run late in the period to put the game out of reach. When the buzzer sounded, SC had earned a 17 point, 69-52 victory on the road. Patrick and Jannica Schultze led the Lady Warriors in the second half. Patrick scored seven second half points and had three second half rebounds. Schultze scored nine points in the second half.
Patrick led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Schultze scored 15 points. Lucas had a monster game for Sterling with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Webber had three players score in double figures. Nikki King led Webber with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Stacia Jo Hill scored 12 points and Kala Alicea scored 11 points.
With the win, Sterling moves to 11-1 on the season. SC's next game will be on December 31 when they travel to the Tabor Classic to take on Central Methodist University at 2:00 pm. The game will be available on the KCAC Broadcast Network.
