Megan Patrick Earns KCAC Player of the Week Honors
Wichita, Kan. - Sterling College's Megan Patrick has been named the Women's Basketball Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Player of the Week for her play in the first week of conference competition. During the week, Megan scored 39 points (19.5 avg.), pulled down 16 rebounds (8.0 avg.), had three assists, three blocks, and two steals on her way to helping the Lady Warriors start the KCA
C season at 2-0. Sterling's two victories this week came over Southwestern College, whom was ranked 25th in the nation at the time, 82-80 and Tabor College 78-44.
Against Southwestern, Patrick helped the Lady Warriors win a close match-up that was decided in the last 0.2 seconds of the game. Megan led Sterling in scoring in the game with 17 points and had a team high nine rebounds in 35 minutes on the court. In the game, Megan's sister, Laura Patrick, gave SC their final lead, hitting two free-throws with 0.2 seconds on the clock to give Sterling the 82-80 victory of KCAC rival, Southwestern.
Tabor College was unable to provide a challenge for Megan as she scored a game high 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds on the way to a 78-44 Warrior victory. Patrick shot 9-17 in the game, including 4-6 from behind the three point line.
Patrick is currently second in the KCAC in points per game (ppg) and field goal percentage, averaging 20.6 ppg and shooting 0.508 from the field. Megan is also 12th in the KCAC in rebounds per game (rpg), averaging 6.13 rpg. Defensively, Patrick's presence has been felt on the court as she is first in the KCAC in blocked shots per game (bpg) with 1.63 bpg. On a side note, Megan just recently surpassed the 1,000 point mark in career scoring and is currently sitting on 1,040 points.
The Lady Warriors have two more KCAC match-ups this week. On Thursday, Sterling will travel to Lindsborg to take on Bethany College and KCAC leading scorer Cathy Wade at 6:00 pm. On Saturday, the University of Saint Mary will travel to Sterling to take on the Lady Warriors. Game time is 5:00 pm.
