Josh Svaty, a Sterling College graduate of 2002, will give the Baccalaureate address titled “Sterling Discernment" on Friday, April 24, 2009, in Culbertson Auditorium.
Svaty has served as the State Representative of the 108th District in Kansas since 2003 when he became the youngest member of the Kansas House of Representatives for two terms. He currently serves on the committee for Energy and Utilities, Agriculture and Natural Resources and is on the joint committee on Energy and Environmental Policy.
Governor Kathleen Sebelius has declared April 13-19, 2009, Kansas Private College Week, celebrating the wide range of choices among the state’s higher education offerings. The 18 colleges of the Kansas Independent College Association have marked this week with the launching of a website, www.Proud2BPrivate.com, specially designed to introduce students and their families to the colleges and to encourage campus visits during the spring and summer.
Sterling College seniors, Ashley Kraft and Jacci Tinkel, received NAIA Division II All-American honors, following their impressive individual seasons and leading the Lady Warriors to a 27-6 overall record and a trip to the NAIA Division II National Tournament. Sterling also was the KCAC regular season Co-Champions this past year.
The Sterling College Music Department will present two spring instrumental concerts.
On Monday, April 13, the Sterling College/Community Band will perform at 7:00 pm in Upper Wilson. The program will include the works of Sammy Nestico, Robert Foster, Frank Ticheli, Jan Van der Roost, and Steven Reineke.
On Sunday, April 19, the Small Ensemble Concert, including the SC Flute Choir, the Saxophone Ensemble, and the SC Stage Band, will begin at 3:00 pm in Upper Wilson. Both concerts and free and open to the public.
