Antonov to perform in Sterling on concert tour
January 29, 2014
Acclaimed concert pianist Avguste Antonov will perform at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. Antonov is artist in residence at The Master’s Touch School of Music & Performing Arts, LLC., and has an active concert schedule throughout the U.S. The concert, sponsored by Sterling College, is free and open to the public.
“Antonov is a champion of contemporary classical composers. His program will include works by Robert Rollin, Gregory Hutter, Carter Pann and Matthew Saunders. It will be a delightful evening of contemporary works that many are unfamiliar with, but interested in hearing for the first time,” said Brad Nix, chair of Sterling College’s Department of Music.
Antonov was born in Bulgaria, and studied music at the prestigious Ecole Normale de Paris and the Conservatoire Nationale de Region de Bordeaux. In 1999, he moved to the United States to attend the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He moved to the University of Kansas in 2000 and graduated in 2005 with a B.M. in Piano Performance. He earned his M.M. in Piano Performance from Texas Christian University.
He has performed as a soloist with the Alton Symphony Orchestra, the Tulsa Camerata, the San Jose Wind Symphony, the Trevecca Symphony Orchestra, the Hardin-Simmons University Orchestra, the Kansas City Medical Arts Symphony, the University of Kansas Symphony and the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble. His 2013-2014 concert season includes Texas, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Colorado, Kansas, California and Washington.
