Bethany 5, Sterling 4

Bethany won the opening game of the 2008 KCAC conference tournament 5-4 over Sterling . Bethany took an early 4-1 lead but allowed Sterling to score three in the 8th inning to tie it up. Justin Long then came up huge by singling in Hop Sullivan in the bottom of ninth to win the game.

Both teams hit the ball well all day, with Bethany getting fourteen hits while Sterling pounded out ten, but the pitchers didn't allow many runners to score and a lot of players were left stranded on the bases.

Brett Ormiston went the distance for Sterling , pitching 8.2 innings and giving up five runs on fourteen hits while striking out one and walking one.

Hop Sullivan and Joel Sundquist led the way for Bethany with three hits, while Holbert Harold and Justin Long each added two.

Matt Elliot and Murri Lazaroff-Babin each had two hits apiece for Sterling .

Sterling will face Ottawa University on Friday in the elimination game at 11:00 am at Dean Evans Stadium. Ottawa lost to Saint Mary 4-5 in 10 innings in the other game yesterday. The winner will play again at 7:00 PM against the loser of Saint Mary/Bethany.

Warriors Drop Series to Morningside
03/01/2008
The Warriors couldn't have ordered better weather for the four-game series with Morningside College out of Iowa. Unfortunately, they would have prefered the bats to be as warm as the weather as they dropped the series 3 games to 1 as Morningside took 2 of the 3 in close fashion as Game 1 was decided in extra innings 7-10 in favor of the visitor, Game 2 after a suspension due to darkness was taken by the Warriors Saturday morning 8-7; and after a 18-1 drubbing in Game 3, Morningside took the final game 4-5; the Warriors having men on base in the 6th and 7th but never pushing one across.

"We just have not been able to get a hit in crucial situations. We hit .270 as a team for the series; and that's just putting too much on the shoulders of a young pitching staff," exclaimed Coach Hamilton. "I believe in the guys we have in the lineup, they just haven't zoned in yet... I would be shocked if our .267 team batting average doesn't climb as the season goes, otherwise, it will be rough year... but the law of averages says a career .350-.375 hitter won't hit .250 for long."

The Warriors left 34 men on base in the series and left the bases loaded in game 1 in the bottom of the 7th to win it, and 3 runners on base in the last two innings of Game 4 down 1 run. "You have to bring runners in, 9 runners a game left on is just way too much," added Hamilton.

"I think we could very well be have an incredible trick up our sleeve. A 4-10 record will start to make people look past us, and that's fine, they should right now; but if we can start putting complete games together with this new crew as well as hit as were capable, there's no telling. We just need to keep getting out there and keep swinging."

The Warriors play host to York College from the extremely tough MCAC conference on Tuesday at 1pm for a doubleheader.
Warriors Sweep Home Opener
02/13/2008
The Warriors under the helm of new head baseball coach and '98 alumni Jared Hamilton posted a home opening sweep of the Manhattan Christian Crusaders by the scores of 18-5, and 5-4.

The opener had plenty of long ball action as three Warrior went deep for SC. Senior OF Matt Elliott (pictured), Junior IF Joel Orr, and Senior DH Ryan Staten in a pinch hit performance.

Adam Niedens picked up the win pitching for the Warriors going 4 innings, giving up only 2 unearned runs.

The second game didn't come quite as easy as the Warriors called on some late game heroics from the heart of the lineup. The Manhattan pitching threw strikes and kept the ball down limiting opportunities, and with the Warriors leaving runners stranded in scoring position in every inning but one, the seventh came with SC down 2. A lead-off single by senior IF/C Murri Lazaroff-Babin. After FR Rashard Colquitt pinch ran for a stolen base; an infield single by Senior OF Rob Carroll scored him, followed by a couple stolen bases from Carroll, then a walk to Sophomore Tyler Henoch pinch hitting, the stage was set as Sophomore Callen Kincaide drove a 1-0 pitch to the center field wall driving in Carroll and Henoch to win the game.

"We just have to do alot better taking advantage of scoring opportunities," remarked Hamilton. "It's unbelievable the feeling knowing the last time I won a game in a Warrior uniform was as a player; I'm am just overjoyed to be here and be with this hreat group of guys."

The Warriors next host the Perennial Powerhouse Bellevue University Friday and Saturday for a 3 game series.
