Senior Cedrique Smith became a Kansas Relays Champion this past Saturday with a victory in the college/university/open division of the 110m hurdles. The Men's 110m Hurdle field consisted of 31 of some of the top NCAA D1 and D2, NAIA and Unattached athletes from across the country.

On Friday, Smith finished second in his heat with a 14.37 behind Keith Hopkins (14.33) of the Wildcat Track Club. Although Smith was second in his heat, his time was the third fastest over all behind Hopkins and Sabiel Anderson's 14.23 of NCAA D2 powerhouse Lincoln University. With the Kansas Relays taking the heat winner and the next two fastest times, Smith would be seeded in lane 1 for the finals on Saturday.

On an eventful Saturday at the Kansas Relays with the best of the best of high school, college and elite athletes competing in finals it was all Smith. Smith's time of 13.82 was well ahead of Lawson Montgomery of the Shocker Track Club and his second place time of 14.00.

Smith's 13.82 not only earned him a Kansas Relays Championship and Relays wrist watch, it places him atop the NAIA Performance list by 0.20 seconds, breaks his own previous school record of 13.98 set last week and has him listed as the 35th fastest time in the world by the IAAF.
