Sterling College Homecoming begins Oct. 9

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

One week earlier than in years past, Sterling College will host alumni and guests Oct. 9-11 for Homecoming 2014. This year will include musical “Jane Eyre,” the return of the petting zoo to Homecoming Hangout, alumni reunions and sporting events by fall athletic teams.

Guests can register for events through Eventbrite, schomecoming.eventbrite.com, and buy tickets for alumni reunions, “Jane Eyre”, Picnic at the President’s and the Homecoming Dinner. Those who register by Oct. 3 will have individualized packets ready for pick-up as early as Thursday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. in the Alumni Center in Mabee Library. Packets will include pre-ordered tickets, a Homecoming schedule, map and Sterling College products. Packets may also be picked up on Friday at the Alumni Center and Saturday at the Homecoming Hangout on East Cooper Lawn between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Show times for “Jane Eyre” will be 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors. They can be ordered through Eventbrite or by calling the box office at 620-278-4265. The box office will be open starting Monday, Oct. 6, from 1-5 p.m.

Friday will feature men’s and women’s soccer games against Bethany College and volleyball will take on McPherson College. From 5:30-7:30 p.m., alumni and friends will gather at Picnic at the President’s – a get-together for everyone. Special reunion celebrations are planned for classes ending in 4s, 9s and 51 years or more after graduation. Reunion information can be found at www.sterling.edu/alumni/reunions.

“Picnic at the President’s has two main goals. We want reunion classes who don’t have time to plan an event to use this as a place to get together. We also want to give reunion classes a chance to have a reunion and see friends from other classes at the same time. Alumni are welcome to bring their entire family to the event by pre-registering online,” said Teryn Irvin, manager for alumni and marketing.

Saturday will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the start of the annual pancake and sausage feed, benefiting the Lady Warrior basketball team. The Homecoming Hangout will begin at 10 a.m. on East Cooper Lawn and include carnival games, petting zoo and inflatable bounce house. At 1 p.m., the young alumni reunion will begin at Smisor Stadium with the football game against Bethel College starting at 1:30 p.m. Homecoming royalty will be announced at 1:00p.m. at Smisor Stadium, and the 10th Athletic Hall of Fame class will be inducted at halftime. After the game, alumni and guests can enjoy the annual alumni softball game, Homecoming Dinner and the final showing of “Jane Eyre.”
