Men’s soccer earns big win over Benedictine College
The Sterling College men's soccer team picked up a big win upsetting Benedictine College 2-1 Saturday in Atchison, KS
The Ravens struck first in the match in the 37th minute when David Seefeldt slotted a ball past SC goalkeeper Cory Speed. Sterling answered with 1:55 left in the half when freshman Mladen Bjelica put at twenty-yard shot in to the upper left corner of the Benedictine goal evening the score 1-1. The second half proved to be an exciting one as both teams battled it out. But it was Sterling who would find the back of the net with 19 minutes to play. Sterling then fell back and held off the BC attack to win the match 2-1.
"This win was a result of the dedication that the men have shown through a brutal schedule" said Head Coach Brandon Winn. "We hope to capitalize on this momentum heading into the second half of our season."
Senior Cory Speed finished the game with eight amazing saves.
Sterling (2-6, 0-2) now travels to Southwestern College on Wednesday before traveling to KCAC pre-season favorite Kansas Wesleyan University.
