Warrior Golf wins the Prairie Cup
The Warrior golf program finished their fall season with a win in the Prairie Cup which featured a "Ryder Cup" style of match play between Sterling College, Bethel College and Friend University.
With strong play in the foursomes and best ball competition (winning 7 of 10 matches) Sterling golf was able to forge a sizable lead going into the individual match play portion of the event. Friends made a strong run in the individual match play portion and almost overtook the Warriors. Taylor Owens, a freshmen for Sterling, was able to pull a half point against Jay Cargile from Friends to clinch the cup for the Warriors.
"It was a great way for our guys to finish up the fall season" said Head Golf Coach Sean Gillespie. "They were able to go and not necessarily worry about posting a score but to just win holes. I know that both Bethel and Friends had a great time and will look forward to this event next fall. I believe that this fall was a good spring board for us for the Spring season. We learned a lot about ourselves and who we are and where we want to take the program. Some of our weaknesses were exposed as well as some of our strengths. It will be good for the guys to take a break now and be college students".
