TO ACQUIRE MATERIALS NOT OWNED BY MABEE LIBRARY:
For Sterling Online students, Mabee Library recommends that you first check with your local library for Interlibrary Loan services (ILL). Also check any local community colleges or universities for community user access. Using local resources may provide faster service for you than using Mabee Library.

TO USE INTERLIBRARY LOAN (ILL) THROUGH MABEE LIBRARY:
Go to http://sterling.edu/academics/interlibrary-loan and click on WorldCat. You will need your Sterling username and password (same as your Sterling email) to access this database. WorldCat contains over 60 million items held in more than 18,000 libraries worldwide.

While many requests are filled promptly, the Library suggests that the user allow at least 2 weeks turnaround time for ILL transactions. Timely access to requested materials is not guaranteed. Sterling College staff cannot control the activity or lending efficiency of any lending institution.

FAQs about ILL services:

  • Interlibrary loan requests are processed by Library staff after receiving the electronic request via WorldCat.
  • Costs to process and ship the interlibrary loan transaction to you are covered by the Library. You are responsible for postage/costs to return books to Mabee Library.
  • The circulation period varies with each interlibrary loan item as it is set by the lending library, not the Sterling College Library.
  • You may request an item be renewed but that renewal must be approved by the lending library.
  • Overdue interlibrary loan items incur a fine of $1.00/day for each. There is no grace period for ILL items.
  • Failure to return materials and/or pay outstanding fines will result in a hold being placed on your account.
  • You are liable for replacement costs of lost items plus a $20.00 handling fee.
  • Many interlibrary loan journal articles come to the Sterling College Library via email and can be emailed on to you.

ONLINE DATABASES:
http://sterling.edu/academics/databases-online lists databases in general and specific subject areas. You will need your Sterling username and password (same as your Sterling email) to access these databases.
