Prof .Harmon was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. At an early age he was encouraged and nurtured in art in his parochial school education. He received his BFA in painting from Webster University in 1977.In 1982; He received his MFA in painting from Penn State University. Harmon has taught studio art and art history as well as having been an art department director at a number of previous institutions including The Savannah College of Art and Design, Bethel College-Indiana, Keystone College, The State University of New York, The University of Arizona and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Harmon has received numerous awards and honors including Best Painting in national juried exhibitions .He has been in well over 100 solo and group exhibitions of his work in numerous galleries and museums nationwide. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and other Who’s Who publications. He has juried many exhibitions and has been a visiting artist in artist residencies in Wyoming, Montana and Woodstock, New York. He has joined the faculty at Sterling College, fall 2008 as an associate professor of art.
