Nickel is a former Sterling College student that has experience working in the sport business field at the youth, scholastic and collegiate levels. Having professional experience in a variety of sport management positions gives Nickel an eclectic background of real world experience to share with students in the classroom.
Before taking a full time teaching role at Sterling, Nickel taught on a pro rata basis and was also the Sports Information Director for the Sterling College Warrior athletic department. As the SID, Nickel oversaw the marketing and public relations activities of Warrior Athletics.
Prior to coming to Sterling, Nickel was the Assistant to the Commissioner for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference based out of Wichita, Kansas. The KCAC is a 10 member NAIA conference in which Sterling competes.
While finishing his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wichita State University, Nickel coached high school boys and girls basketball at Augusta High School in Augusta, Kansas. Also while in school at Wichita State, Nickel completed an internship with Wichita State Athletics in the marketing department.
Nickel garnered experience in youth sport as a volunteer on the Augusta Youth Soccer Board of Directors. Nickel’s responsibilities included game day field preparation and oversight of AYS referees.
Hans is married to his wife, Sarah. The couple has two children, Madison and Ehli.
