Scott Carter is Sterling College's vice president of institutional advancement, overseeing planned giving, annual fund, alumni relations, advancement database/software systems, donor development and all advancement operations. Scott also serves as a member of the president’s cabinet.
Scott has served in advancement roles within higher education and not-for-profit organizations for 18 years. In addition to two stints at Sterling (1987-1990 and 2008-2010) Scott has grown advancement programs – from alumni relations to annual fund to major gifts – at the University of Denver, Ohio University, Junior Achievement National Headquarters, University of Colorado Foundation, and the YMCA of the Rockies.
Scott is a 1988 graduate of Sterling College, where as a student he served as a resident assistant, member of choir, played baseball, and was captain of the football team. He served on Sterling’s National Advisory Council Committee from 1998-2000 and annually hosted Sterling alumni events in Northern Colorado.
Scott obtained his masters in sports administration from the nation’s top rated program at Ohio University. His ventures into sports-related businesses includes part-ownership of a company that provided transportation management services for large scale events such as the NBA and NHL All-Star Weekends, sports marketing and event management with Triple Crown Sports in Denver, fundraising in the athletic departments at Ohio University and the University of Denver, and ownership of a sports-themed restaurant in Estes Park, Colorado.
Scott’s mom grew up in Sterling and he still has many family members living in Sterling, Alden, and surrounding area. He is married to Heather McCreery ’90, and they have two children, Micah and Kylie.
