Sterling College Alumnus Dr. Jamie “JC” Chambers Announced as Black History Month Convocation Speaker

Sterling College is pleased to announce that alumnus Dr. Jamie "JC" Chambers will be the speaker for the annual Black History Month Convocation. The convocation will take place on Friday, February 18 at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the SC campus and is open to the public.

Chamber's speech is titled "Guess Who is Coming to Chapel." Dr. Chambers is originally from Denver, Colo., but navigated his way to central Kansas where he graduated from Sterling College with a bachelor's degree in art and education in 1983. In 1985 he received his master's degree in counseling from North American Baptist Seminary. Soon after Dr. Chambers applied and entered the doctoral program at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, and completed the program in 1992 with a doctorate in counseling education and with emphasis on family issues. Dr. Chambers is the father to current student, Carley Chambers.

Dr. Chambers is licensed as a psychologist, marriage and family therapist and professional counselor in the state of South Dakota. Dr. Chambers is also a part of the AAMFT, American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist and has been an approved supervisor since 2001. Dr. Chambers has studied Adlerian Individual Psychology which can help when examining the impact of family life on life style decisions. Dr. Chambers is also trained as a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor, Level III and since 1985 has worked extensively with adolescents and adults who are dealing with chemical dependency issues. Dr. Chambers is a Master Life Space Crisis Intervention trainer and a Senior Response Ability Pathways trainer.
