WARRIORS ADVANCE, BEAT BETHEL
Sterling, Kan. - In the Quarterfinal Round of the 2011 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Men's Basketball Tournament Championship, the Sterling College Warriors easily defeated Bethel College 74-57. Sterling outscored Bethel 22-14 on points off of turnovers and 20-6 on second chance points on their way to their 19th victory of the season.
Sterling started out the game slow, trailing by a point at the 17:05 mark of the first half. A six to nothing run put Sterling in front, and the Warriors would never relinquish that lead. Trent Stutzman went three for three from behind the three point line in the first half for nine points. Senior Zach Goodrich scored seven points in the first half, had six rebounds and five assists. Cody Brazelton also scored six points in the first half.
The Warriors would build the lead to over 20 points in the second half, and would keep it consistently around 20 points throughout the half. Every Warrior on roster saw the floor in the second half, including seniors Mark Swiontek, Brian Boarman, and Joe Miller. At the end of the game, Sterling had advanced in the KCAC Tournament 74-57.
Stutzman led the Warriors in scoring with 17 points. Brazelton also scored in double figures for Sterling with 10 points. Senior Diego Ferro had a productive night off of the bench for Sterling. Ferro scored six points and had seven rebounds.
Jason O'Brien was the only Bethel player in double figures with 12 points.
With the win, Sterling advances in the KCAC Tournament and will play Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm in the Gleason Center against the 4th seeded Tabor College Bluejays.
