WARRIORS ARE THE 2010-11 KCAC MEN'S BASKETBALL REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS
North Newton, Kan. - The Sterling College Warrior Men's Basketball team is the 2010-2011 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Regular Season Champions and will represent the KCAC at the 2011 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament in Branson, Missouri. Sterling wrapped up the title by defeating Bethel College on Thursday night 63-49. SC's win combined with Tabor College's loss to Friends University has given the Warriors a two game lead in the KCAC standings with one game to play.
Sterling played a phenomenal game defensively, holding Bethel to only 23 first half points. Unfortunately, SC struggled offensively in the first half, scoring only 28 points and taking a five point lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Warriors continued their defensive dominance and picked up the pace on the offensive end. Sterling shot nearly 50 percent from the field, going 13 for 24 from the field. Sterling won the game easily 63-49 then minutes later learned that they were the KCAC Regular Season Champions.
The Warriors had three players score in double figures. Cody Brazelton led all scorers with 18 points. Zach Poole added 13 points and five rebounds, and Trent Stutzman scored 12 points.
Scoring in double figures for Bethel was Jason O'Brien and Chip Schneider, both with 13 points.
With the win, Sterling solidified their place atop the KCAC with a 13-4 conference record, 17-10 overall. SC has one more game remaining in the regular season and will host McPherson College for Senior Night on Saturday. Game time is 7:00 pm.
