SC debate and forensics team opens season with win | October 2, 2014

The collegiate debate and forensics season began with Sterling College winning the tournament they co-hosted with Hutchinson Community College. Debates on a Plain took place Sept. 26-27 in Hutchinson with 19 in the parliamentary debate, 31 teams in the Lincoln-Douglas debate and 22 teams in the forensics tournament.

“Jane Eyre” to take the stage Oct. 9 at Sterling College | October 1, 2014

Music will fill Culbertson Auditorium Oct. 9-11 as Sterling College students and community members unite to produce “Jane Eyre,” a musical based on Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel. The show will open at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Seating is reserved and tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors. The box office will be open starting Monday, Oct. 6, from 1-5 p.m. for reservations by phone at 620-278-4265.

Sterling College tops 2013 enrollment count | September 30, 2014

The official enrollment numbers are in, and Sterling College has reported a 10 percent increase in enrollment over the last two years. With a total head count of 718, Sterling College’s enrollment displaces last year’s count as the third highest in school history and trails second place by only four students.

Kansas Secretary of Corrections to visit Sterling College | September 24, 2014

The new criminal justice program at Sterling College will host Ray Roberts, Kansas Secretary of Corrections, on Oct. 2, 2014 at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall on the campus of Sterling College. Roberts will discuss the current state of corrections in Kansas as well as answer questions in a town hall meeting. The event will bring together law enforcement from Rice and surrounding counties, students from the College, and other community guests. The event is free and open to the public.

Sterling College Homecoming begins Oct. 9 | September 23, 2014

One week earlier than in years past, Sterling College will host alumni and guests Oct. 9-11 for Homecoming 2014. This year will include musical “Jane Eyre,” the return of the petting zoo to Homecoming Hangout, alumni reunions and sporting events by fall athletic teams.

Gaeddert defends dissertation on integration of faith and learning | September 17, 2014

Terri Gaeddert, associate professor of education and associate dean at Sterling College, successfully defended her dissertation for the doctor of education degree from Wichita State University in August. Her dissertation discusses how faith and learning is perceived on a Christ-centered campus by administration, faculty and students.

Sterling College hires new manager of alumni and marketing | September 16, 2014

A local alumna of Sterling College joined their Office of Institutional Advancement and External Relations this month. Teryn (Frizell) ’12 Irvin began her role as manager of alumni and marketing on Sept. 2. This newly created role on campus serves both the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Office of Marketing and Communications, striving to build a stronger connection between these two important functions of the College.

New employees join Sterling College | September 15, 2014

The Office of Admissions and Sterling College Online both have new staff this month. Kaylee Beutler ’14 joined admissions in late August as the visit experience coordinator, and Will Lewis joined SCO as an admissions counselor.

Beutler will plan and execute campus visit events, such as Preview Weekends, and assist Mackenzie McGuire ’14 in planning personal campus visits. She will also work with Carrie McGlynn, admissions counselor, in recruiting science-oriented students.

Ken Blanchard to speak at Sterling College on Sept. 17 | September 12, 2014

The inaugural Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series speaker, Ken Blanchard, will appear on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the campus of Sterling College. Focusing on servant leadership, Blanchard will address students, employees and guests of the College. Concert pianist to perform on Sept. 15 at Sterling UPC | September 12, 2014

Sam Rotman, Christian concert pianist, will perform a free concert on Monday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at Sterling United Presbyterian Church. Rotman will be in town on Monday to lecture students in the music department at Sterling College and has offered to perform a concert followed by his testimony that evening. The public is invited to attend.
