Sterling College Musical TheatreAbout the Program

The Musical Theatre major at Sterling College is designed for students interested in a career in Musical Theatre. This rigorous major empowers students to become proficient in acting, vocal performance, and dance while also embracing all areas of theatre to become strong, adept members of the theatre industry. The Theatre Department at Sterling is hailed as a strong, tight-knit community of thespians and artists, who are excited to apply their gifts and talents to the performing arts while glorifying God.

Students participate in multiple productions each year, typically including two musicals, to apply and hone their skills while gaining vital performance experience. Casting is assigned based on character fit, not on seniority. First year students are encouraged, and often cast, in lead roles alongside upperclassmen to maximize their learning and experience. Work and practicum opportunities are also available in professional theatres, summer stock, theme parks, and other related settings to help students diversify and strengthen their experiences with other directors, performers, and performance settings.

Students in this department have excellent acceptance rates to graduate programs. Skills and qualities developed by the program include organization, artistic design, self-expression, leadership, human relations, self-awareness, critical judgment and creativity.
