The 125th Anniversary Kick Off Banquet was the first official event held in the cafeteria after the renovations. Several employees were recognized for their years of service to Sterling College. Dr. Adebukola Gbade-Oyelakin, Talmon Bell chair of mathematics, meets Cheryl Kerr before the banquet. Dan Swartz, professor of art, and Rebecca Swartz chat with Gentry Sutton, professor of language and literature. Professor Emeritus Gordon Kling sits with Aaron Kennedy, who is one of the new assistant professors of theatre arts. Executive Vice President and CFO Scott Rich welcomes everyone to the banquet and begins the 125th academic year. Chartwells Manager Quintin Eason explains the different food stations the group will experience as they explore the cafeteria. Quintin and his team cut the ribbon to the cafeteria and welcome the faculty and staff to be the first dinner guests. Over 180 faculty, staff, Board members, National Advisory Council members, retired employees and spouses attended the Kick Off. Elena Righettini, education professor, requests blueberry walnut salad. Kyle Dillard and Mike Talton '12 serve the 125th Anniversary Sandwich to Felicia Squires, professor of language and literature.. Faculty and staff peruse the diverse options in the cafeteria. Dr. Greg Kerr recognizes Dr. Hank Lederle, Terri Gaeddert and Merrillyn Kloefkorn for ten years of service to the College. Gary Kempf, athletic director, recognizes Coach Hosea Bell for his 15 years of service. Song Kirk has also served 15 years. Vicky Kirchoff, physical plant office manager, received a "Divine Servant" statue for her 20 years of service to the College. A Legacy Brick will be placed outside of Kelsey Hall in honor of Arlen Nuest, electrician, for his 25 years of service. Bookstore Manager Debbie Staton received marble bookends for her 30 years of service to the College. Laura Bateman, professor of music, leads a closing hymn, "How Great Thou Art."
