New Faculty Join SC

FacultySterling College has announced several new additions to its faculty.

Dr. Raymond Anderson will be joining the college as an associate professor of communications. Dr. Anderson has taught courses in video production and direction, broadcast news, scriptwriting and more. He played a significant role in growing the major at George Fox University during his years at the school.

Irene Barkman, a CPA from Hutchinson, has joined as assistant professor of business. She has extensive accounting experience and completed her master’s degree in accounting at Wichita State University this summer.

Laura Bateman will be joining the music department faculty this fall. Laura holds the B.M. from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, the M.M. from the University of Northern Colorado, and is near completion of her D.A. in Voice Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. Besides a vocal performer, she is also a violinist.

Megan Fraley will be joining the faculty as an assistant professor of mathematics. Fraley holds the M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) and a B.S. in Mathematics from Doane College.

Dr. Dale Levering will be joining the faculty as the McVay Chair of Business. He holds the Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and M.B.A. (Finance and Management) from KSU, the Bachelor of Business Administration from Washburn University, and the B.A. in Military History from The Citadel. Dale is currently serving at LCC International University, a Christian institution in Lithuania, and is an experienced pastor.

Joe Skillen is a visiting assistant professor of theology and ministry. He graduated from Sterling College with a degree in communications in 2003. He then received two master’s degrees, in Practical Theology and Organizational Leadership, from Regent University. He is coming to Sterling from working as a campus pastor of Asbury Church in Wichita, Kan.

Daniel Swartz will be joining our Art and Design faculty this fall. Daniel holds the B.A. in Illustration from Indiana Wesleyan University, the M.A. in Painting from Ball State University, and is completing his M.F.A. in Illustration from the University of Hartford. He is an experienced freelance illustrator and adjunct instructor.

In addition, two Sterling College employees have joined the faculty.

Gentry Sutton joins the faculty having accepted the role of assistant professor of language and literature and coordinator of writing across the curriculum. Sutton will still serve as Sterling College’s director of institutional assessment.

Katherine “K.C.” Bassett has moved from financial aid technician to instructor of exercise science. She will also still continue to serve as an assistant coach for women’s basketball.
