Lesa Brown
Lesa Brown (SC ’97) is thrilled to return to her alma mater. She holds an MA in Theatre Education from Northern Colorado University and has over 30 years of theatre, music, and art teaching and directing experience. She recently was an affiliate professor at Colorado Christian University, taught theatre at the highest-ranking school in Colorado Springs, and runs Awaken Creative Institute, a non-profit dedicated to helping theatre companies bring their communities together.
Sean Foster
Sean is excited to be a part of the team at Sterling College. He specializes in vocal pedagogy and performance based on anatomy and physiology and how they affect sound. Working as a vocalist and a pianist, Sean has performed as a collaborator and soloist throughout the country. As a music educator, Sean has worked in classrooms of all levels, most of his work taking place in choral music at the high school level. Sean has degrees from Wichita State University and from Western Illinois University. Additionally, Sean has a deep love of music and youth ministry.
Kaylea Hein
I grew up in Wichita, KS and began my academic journey at Sterling College in 2018 on a golf scholarship, majoring in Health Science. After graduating in 2022, I embarked on a two-year path through the Athletic Training Program. I completed my master’s degree in May 2024 and was thrilled to be hired back at Sterling College as an assistant Athletic Trainer. I am eager to contribute to the college community that has meant so much to me. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with animals, watching movies, reading books, following sports, and exploring the outdoors
Dr. Rachel Danley
Dr. Rachel Danley recently called Scotland “home,” but is now returning to her first home in Kansas. Her parents met and married while attending Sterling College, and she was born in Lyons. After growing up as a pastor’s kid in rural Iowa, she served in college ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for 13 years where she grew a love for God, His Word, and students from around the world. From this experience, God led her to commit herself to the academy long-term and to delve deeper into Scripture through the biblical languages in her master’s programs.
Katie Petersen
Katie earned her B.A. in Professional Studio Art from Doane University and has recently earned her MFA in Painting from Fort Hays State University in May 2023. Katie enjoys shotgun sports, in which she participated in high school and college. Katie won the Women’s High Overall SCTP National Championship. Katie also enjoys writing, listening to reviews/critiques of movies and novels.
Dr. Donna Devlin
Donna earned her Ph.D. in History from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to that she earned her M.A. in American History and Government from Ashland University; B.S. in Education and a B.A. in History from Fort Hays State University. Donna enjoys reading, playing the piano, jogging, watching Royals baseball, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She has two daughters, Sydney, and Corbin. Donna was raised on their family farm near Jewell County Kansas.
Tyler Jones
Tyler earned his B.S. in Physical Education/Health & Exercise Science from Missouri Western State University; and his MS in Athletic Training here at Sterling College this past May 2023. Tyler enjoys hunting, fishing and being outdoors, and is eager to contribute his enthusiasm, skills, and work ethic as a staff of the athletic training staff.
Sean Engler
Sean earned his MFA in Graphic Design from FHSU in 2024 and looks forward to applying his new skills and knowledge in the classroom. Sean and his wife are Sterling residents excited to invest in the community. Sean was born and raised in Wichita, so he has deep Kansas roots. He enjoys playing bass guitar and drums, writing stories and printmaking is a fine art hobby. His primary practice is Digital 3D Creation including sculpting characters, animation, and product development. HIs other design interests include digital illustration, branding, and videography.
Dr. Shebuel Varghese
Dr. Sheb Varghese grew up in AZ where he became enchanted with philosophy and theology at a classical, Christian school. He majored in philosophy in college and went on to pursue two graduate degrees in theology. He wrote his doctoral thesis on friendship in the works of Aristotle and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Sheb is passionate about forming wise and faithful disciples of Jesus who love God with all their hearts, souls, and minds. He enjoys conversations with friends, cooking, hiking in the mountains, and watching good movies. Sheb and his wife have four beautiful children.
Dr. Luke Brake
Luke Brake was born in Nebraska, raised in North Carolina, and move to Sterling from Tennessee. He earned his Masters and Doctorate at the University of Memphis in Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication. He directs the Honors program at Sterling College, and is chair of the Language and Literature Department. His research and study interests tend to focus on Religious writing, Electracy/Digital rhetoric, and the Christian faith.
