Partnering with GraceWorks Alaska for another year, student-athletes from Sterling College and Emporia State University spent a week serving families in Anchorage. The 11 athletes traveled with women’s basketball head coach K.C. Bassett, women’s soccer head coach Justin Morris, Leavenworth resident Bill Bassett and Sterling resident Wendy Comley.

The group of Sterling College representatives served meals to kids and families in a park, followed by a Bible lesson and playing games. They also went on morning prayer walks and held an evening supper for park visitors.

“What an awesome week we had in Alaska! In our team reflection, we came to the conclusion that although we came to Alaska with the idea that we would help and serve others in Anchorage, we were the ones who were transformed and changed. This was a life changing trip for many. To be able to love on and minister to the individuals in the park all week was an absolute blessing and something none of us will ever forget,” said Bassett.

Sterling College students who served in Alaska include: Kelli Black of Stroud, Oklahoma; Serena Cisneroz of Wichita, Kansas; Kylah Comley of Sterling, Kansas; Caden Ford of Haven, Kansas; Alissa Gasper of Tipton, Kansas; Hunter Hope of Cunningham, Kansas; Dentton Hudspeth of Denton, Texas; Bailey Lewis of Peetz, Colorado; Heather Rhoads of Peoria, Arizona; and Maddie Sutton of Las Vegas, Nevada. Emporia State University was represented by Seth Surface of Perry-Lecompton, Kansas.
