Late Goal Gives Lady Warriors the Win

Sterling, Kan. - The Lady Warriors Soccer Team beat York College in Sterling on a late second half goal that gave made the final score 2-1. The game was close even though the Lady Warriors outshot York 23-8 in the game. Kylie Yates scored the game winning goal for the Lady Warriors.

York College jumped out to a lead in the first half, scoring in the 25th minute. York's Morgan Tackett was able to slip the ball past Paige Farmer, Sterling's goalkeeper. Tackett's goal kept York in front until the 42nd minute when Karina Noah assisted Emily Gloshen on the equalizing goal for Sterling. At the half, the score was tied 1-1.

Sterling put the defensive clamps on in the second half, only allowing York to shoot twice. Offensively, the Lady Warriors struggled to find the net until the 88th minute. Anely Laguna would slip a pass to Yates who pummeled the ball into the back of the York net to give the Lady Warriors the lead and the game 2-1.

Yates's goal was her 14th of the season, which leads the NAIA, and, by scoring, Yates has now scored in nine straight games this season.

The win pushes the Lady Warriors back over .500 to a 5-4 record. Sterling will open up KCAC play on Saturday in Hillsboro, Kansas against Tabor College. Game time is 6:00 pm.
