Sterling College and Southern Nazarene University announce new pathway for athletic training students
Sterling College and Southern Nazarene University (SNU) have launched a new academic partnership that creates a streamlined pathway for SNU undergraduate students to earn both a bachelor’s degree from Southern Nazarene and a Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) from Sterling College.
“At Sterling College, we believe strong partnerships create strong professionals. Our new 3+2 pathway with Southern Nazarene University allows us to join forces in preparing the next generation of athletic trainers. We’re especially grateful for the leadership of SNU Department Chair of Kinesiology Jason Coles ’09, a proud Sterling College Athletic Training alum, whose efforts were instrumental in making this agreement a reality. We’re excited to support motivated SNU students as they pursue advanced education and meaningful careers in healthcare,” said Dr. Ryan “Pete” Manley, director of athletic training.
Through this partnership, qualified SNU students who complete required coursework with a minimum 3.0 grade point average and earn at least a C in all MSAT prerequisite courses will be eligible to apply for direct admission into Sterling College’s accredited MSAT program.
Each year, Sterling College will offer automatic acceptance for up to two SNU students who meet all pathway requirements. Acceptance prior to the completion of junior-year coursework is considered conditional pending final GPA and prerequisite completion. Sterling College’s MSAT program begins annually in the summer term.
The agreement formalizes expectations and responsibilities for both institutions and expands graduate educational opportunities for SNU students pursuing athletic training careers.
This agreement represents the first formal pathway partnership for Sterling College’s MSAT program. The two institutions have been working toward this agreement for several years and are excited to see it come to completion.
