Sterling College has announced Jed Miller, chief revenue officer of Parcel, will share his professional journey and lessons from more than two decades of entrepreneurship and business leadership as part of the Oscar Schmidt Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2027, at 6 p.m. in Heritage Hall. Miller’s presentation is titled “Ready. Fire. Aim. Lessons from the Middle of the Journey.” The event is open to the public.

“We are pleased to have Jed speaking at this event. He has so much wisdom and experience to share, not only with our students but with everyone who attends. We are excited to hear about his life’s journey and the lessons he has learned about building businesses, leading others and navigating challenges while staying grounded in his faith,,” Ashley Laudermilk, assistant professor of business.

Miller serves as chief revenue officer of Parcel, an agricultural technology company working to reshape how agricultural retailers buy, sell and manage their businesses. His career has included work across restaurants, real estate, agriculture, technology and entrepreneurship, with experience building businesses, leading teams and pursuing new opportunities.

Throughout his career, Miller has learned that some of the most important decisions in business must be made before all the answers are available. His approach has been to move with conviction, learn quickly, adjust when necessary and continue moving forward. His presentation will draw from those experiences and the lessons he has learned through the successes, challenges and unexpected turns of his professional journey.

Miller is also an entrepreneur and community leader whose Christian faith shapes his approach to business and service. He believes success is about more than what a person builds, but also the people involved and what that work makes possible for others. Miller and his wife, Michelle, live in Sterling with their two children.

The Oscar Schmidt Lecture Series is an event that occurs on three campuses across the country: Sterling College, The University of Iowa, and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The series is endowed by C. Oscar Schmidt. Lecturers are advocates of the free enterprise system and leaders from the business and academic worlds. Schmidt was strongly oriented to the free enterprise system and desired that his lecture series would assist undergraduates in understanding the system and how this helps the success of the United States.

Schmidt was a businessman from Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and Harvard. Schmidt was president of the Cincinnati Butchers Supply Company and was a director in prominent meat and manufacturing institutes and associations. An engineer by training, he held over twenty-five patents.  He was active in charity work, serving as trustee and past president of Easter Seals and United Cerebral Palsy. Schmidt was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree by Sterling College in 1972 for his outstanding business career and strong ties to the Presbyterian Church.
