Sterling College mourns loss of Trustee Joe Lang '66

Sterling College Board of Trustees member Joe Lang ’66 of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Nov. 5. Lang leaves behind a legacy of servant leadership with his family, his church, and Sterling College.

“Joe will be deeply missed. He was a true servant leader, who was passionate about education and who loved and served his Alma Mater with distinction,” said President Scott Rich.

Since 2006, Lang had served on the Sterling College Board of Trustees and had been the vice chair of the academic affairs committee. Lang had served previously as the president of the Alumni Council and was a member of the Sterling Foundation Board.

Lang was the chief deputy city attorney for the city of Wichita from 1980 to 2010. From 1977 to 1979, he was the research attorney for the Kansas Supreme Court. Lang graduated from Sterling College with a B.A. in History and Political Science and attended Washburn School of Law, earning his degree in 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa, and daughter, Elizabeth. Survivors also include sisters Judith Semenuk ’62 and Connie Jobe ’76.
