Sterling College to present “Hansel and Gretel” January 24-25
Tuesday, January 21, 2020

Sterling College's Music and Theatre Departments will present Engelbert Humperdinck's opera “Hansel and Gretel” to the Sterling community on January 24-25 at 7:30 p.m. The opera will take place in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus. Tickets are available by donation at the door.

“Hansel and Gretel” will be the first opera put on at Sterling in over two decades.

“This is a historic event. An opera production requires immense preparation, as the entire storyline is usually sung, as opposed to musical theater which has features some songs, but mostly spoken narrative, and advanced vocal techniques which eliminate the need for a microphone to project the voice to the audience. It speaks to the high caliber of Sterling student performers as well as the excellent support from faculty and administration to accomplish a feat usually only attempted at much larger universities, and truly exemplifies the special place Sterling College holds among academia - small enough to feel like home, and large enough to accomplish mighty things,” said Heather Redondo, adjunct music professor.

Tickets are available by donation at the door. Additionally, there will be baked goods for sale at intermission during the performance on Saturday, January 25.
