Sterling Unable to Stop Bethany Comeback

Sterling, Kan. - Sterling College was narrowly defeated on Saturday in men's soccer by Bethany College in a game that ended 2-1. The game was the fourth consecutive home match for the Sterling College Warriors Men's Soccer Team. Even though the Warriors were able to outshoot Bethany 14-11, SC was unable to find the net enough times to get past the Swedes.

Ted Dower put the Warriors ahead early, scoring an unassisted goal in the 12th minute of play. With no other scoring happening in the first half, SC took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The second half was all Bethany. Gildardo Navarro tied the match for the Swedes in the 61st minute, and John Nuthall put the game winner past Sterling keeper Riley Zelus in the 83rd minute to give the Swedes the victory.

The loss drops the Warriors to 2-10-2 on the season, 0-5 in the KCAC. Sterling will play its final home match of the season on October 20 against McPherson College. Game time is 4:00pm
