The American Volleyball Coaches Association awarded the 2011-2012 SC Volleyball Team with the AVCA Academic Award for the second year in a row. By maintaining at least a 3.30 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, Sterling became a part of an elite 6.19%, or 33 teams, in the NAIA to earn the award.

The team was also awarded the NAIA Scholar Team Award for the second year in a row. This award is presented to teams earning at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

“I’m proud of the girls for working hard in the classroom. It is our goal to excel in the classroom as well as on the court,” said Coach John Harding.

The team also had a winning season on the court. The Lady Warriors ended their volleyball season with a 19-14 regular season record, and an 11-7 record in the KCAC. Losing only four players from the 2011-2012 team, Coach Harding has high hopes for this year’s season as well. The team roster lists eight seniors who have led the team to a 6-3 record so far.
