Members of the Women's Soccer team recently returned from Anchorage, Alaska, where they spent six days working with the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club and in local parks hosting soccer clinics for kids. The team left on July 22 and returned July 29.

Head Coach Justin Morris, Karna Morris, Athletic Director Gary Kempf and Dorothy Kempf led the trip of 15 individuals. Each morning, the team hosted a soccer clinic for the Boys and Girls Club in south-central Anchorage. In the afternoon, the team prepared lunches to deliver to kids in the park. After lunch they made crafts and hosted a second soccer clinic. After both clinics, the team was able to share the gospel and teach valuable life lessons through skits and their personal testimonies. In the evening, the team returned to the parks to play and fellowship with the kids and their parents.

Morris said, “I couldn't have asked for a better place to go serve. This was our first mission trip as a team and it was amazing! Anchorage is an extremely diverse community. We had a chance to work with a so many kids from so many different walks of life. Many of them had hard lives and little food to eat. Everyday when we showed up, they would meet us down the street and race us to the parks. It was the highlight of their day to see our van rounding the corner, and for some of them, it was their only chance to eat.”

“It was also great to see so many of our players grow closer to God over the week,” said Morris. “I am excited to see how this experience carries over into our team this upcoming season and into their lives.”

Members of the team included Justin and Karna Morris, Gary and Dorothy Kempf, Paul and Samantha Kempf, Faith Kempf and Mitch Turner. Students from the SC Women’s Soccer Team include: Lacey Rhoads of Peoria, Ariz., Michelle Malette of Castiac, Calif., Erica Nua of Palmdale, Calif., Karina Green of Janesville, Calif., Courtney Brand of Evans, Colo., Beth Soliday of Estes Park, Colo., Bethany Roberts of Boling, Texas, Erika Albertson of Wichita, Kan., Haley Smith of Whittier, Calif., Kaitlyn Harding Corona, Calif., and Megan Mendenhall of Dallas, Texas.
