Walker named provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Sterling College

Sterling College has named Dr. John Walker as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. In this role, Walker will serve as the senior academic officer of the College and a member of the President’s Cabinet. He will begin his service in Summer 2026, following the completion of the academic year at Central Christian School in Hutchinson, where he currently serves as superintendent of schools.
“We are delighted to announce Dr. John Walker as our new Provost and Executive Vice President. His love for the Lord combined with his exceptional leadership and deep commitment to our Christ-centered mission make him ideally suited to guide our academic excellence and serve as an integral member of our leadership team,” said Scott Rich, president.
Walker currently serves as superintendent of schools at Central Christian School, a position he has held since 2021. He previously served as an administrator and oversaw student life, admissions, and marketing at Central Christian College of Kansas, where he also continues to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. He is currently a doctoral adjunct professor at Lancaster Bible College and has held a variety of leadership and teaching roles throughout Christian higher education. In addition to his work in K–12 and higher education, Walker has also served as the Kansas Advocacy Director for the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and as a board member for the Kansas Association of Independent and Religious Schools (KAIRS).
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lord in this capacity, and excited for the work ahead. Sterling College has a rich heritage of shaping the lives of young people through a Christ-centered education, and I look forward to joining this team and continuing this deep and meaningful work. There has never been a more important time than today where our world needs more people who have been shaped and formed from this perspective. It is an honor to have been entrusted with this role, and I look forward to collaborating with colleagues, students, and the broader community in the future,” said Walker.
Walker earned his Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Missouri Baptist University. He also holds a Master of Education in Student Affairs from Regent University, a Master of Science in School Leadership from Baylor University, a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies from Emmaus Bible College, and an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management from Hutchinson Community College.
