Sterling College to Host Business Shark Pool Day on December 5
Sterling College will host its inaugural Shark Pool Day on Friday, December 5, and provides an opportunity for area high school students and teachers to experience an interactive day of creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning alongside Sterling faculty. Shark Pool will be held on the Sterling College campus from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will include lunch for all registrants. To register for this exciting day, please visit www.sterling.edu/shark-pool.
This new event is a collaborative effort between the Sterling College Art Department, Business Department and the Communication & Media Department and is designed to provide high school students with a fun and interactive introduction to the academic experience at Sterling College.
“The Sterling College Shark Pool Day will bring the creativity and energy of our academic departments to life. We look forward to welcoming future students to campus for a day that highlights what makes a Sterling education distinct,” said Dr. Karen Carroll, associate professor of business.
Participants will take part in a series of engaging breakout sessions led by Sterling College faculty. Students will explore areas such as graphic design, public relations, social media, marketing, business strategy, personal investment, and team-building. Each session is crafted to give students hands-on opportunities to learn and collaborate while developing creative thinking and leadership skills.
Throughout the day, attendees will work alongside Sterling College faculty including Sean Engler, Holly Schmidt, Ashley Laudermilk, Tim Thorpe, Dr. Teow-Hwa Kwa, and Dr. Karen Carroll. These faculty-led sessions will offer creative design challenges, real-world marketing simulations, financial literacy workshops, and even a fast-paced entrepreneur trivia competition. Lunch will be provided to all registered students at no cost.
The event will conclude with a dynamic showcase of Sterling College’s business students during the final Shark Pool presentations. Modeled after the popular “Shark Tank” format, these presentations will feature student entrepreneurs pitching their ideas to a live audience.
There is no registration fee for the Sterling College Shark Pool Day, but seating is limited. High school students, parents, and teachers are encouraged to register early at www.sterling.edu/shark-pool.
