Sterling College has received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) to award master’s degrees in athletic training, making Sterling College the first accredited master’s program in the state of Kansas. The College announced in June that they will begin their master’s in athletic training in the summer of 2018.

Two juniors at Sterling College have been accepted into the Scholars in Rural Health Program through the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Kristen Calderwood of Ulysses, Kansas, and Matt Finley of Emporia, Kansas, are both guaranteed admission to the KU School of Medicine upon graduation from Sterling College.

The Kansas Academy of Science awarded Sterling College sophomore Elaina Hubbell of St. Louis, Missouri, one of three undergraduate grants in the state of Kansas for the 2017-18 school year. Hubbell is researching the effects of urbanization on the water quality of the Arkansas River and used the grant for water testing equipment.

The annual trip to Lawton, Oklahoma, was fruitful for the Sterling College Debate and Forensics Teams, bringing home eight awards from the Cameron Christmas Classic. The three-day tournament, co-hosted by Cameron University and West Texas A&M University included several competitions for both debate and forensics.
Wes Lowrey of Topeka, Kansas, earned the highest award of the group with first place in impromptu speaking.
