Sterling College senior Whitney Long of Haysville, Kansas, will open her senior art show along with the annual Juried Student Art Show from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the gallery of the Art and Media Center. Awards for best of show and honorable mention in the juried show will be given at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Long is majoring in Art and Design: Education and has created a series of oil on canvas paintings that coincide with her desire to teach high school art after she graduates.

Answering “Why does truth matter?” and other questions of morality, Dr. Sean McDowell delivered a lecture at The Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series for Servant Leadership in Culbertson Auditorium on the campus of Sterling College on April 7. McDowell, an assistant professor in the Christian Apologetics program at Biola University, brought his message “True for You But Not True for Me” to campus. After the lecture, McDowell spoke to current Sterling students as well as area high school students in a question and answer format.

The French absurd comedy “The Maids” will open April 20-22, bringing a night of miscommunication and drama to Sterling College April 20-22 at 8 p.m. Written by French playwright Jean Genet and translated by Bernard Frechtman, students will present the play with a unique twist of six actresses instead of the traditional three.

This year’s Love Sterling celebration will end with a concert by Cloverton, a contemporary Christian band out of Manhattan, Kansas. The concert will take place on East Cooper Lawn at 7 p.m., weather permitting. The Love Sterling planning committee sees this as one more way to give back to the community that supports the College year-round, therefore, the concert is free and open to the public.

In their first national appearance for the 2016-17 season, Sterling College Debate and Forensics traveled to the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament March 22-25 in Boise, Idaho, where two students took home awards in forensics.

Wesley Lowrey of Topeka, Kansas, brought home two awards, excellent ratings in both extemporaneous speaking and broadcast journalism.

Dara Quastad of Inman, Kansas, earned an excellent rating in persuasive speaking, making it the third straight competition in 3 weeks to earn an award in this area.
