Sterling College is excited to announce the launch of its Zero-Cost Textbook Initiative, a groundbreaking program aimed at reducing student expenses and enhancing academic accessibility by eliminating textbook costs for students taking some of the most-enrolled General Education (GE) courses. Set to officially begin in the fall of 2025, the initiative has already made significant progress, with over 165 classes in the fall 2024 semester offering zero-cost textbooks to students.

Four Sterling College students recently participated in the National Student Leadership Forum on Faith and Values in Washington, D.C., where they joined peers and professionals to explore leadership, service, and reconciliation. The three-day event, held Nov. 15-17, brought together students from across the nation to discuss topics such as integrity, purpose, and love.

Sterling College Education Student Keeley Coon, of Eureka, Kan., was recognized at the 2024 Dale Dennis Kansas Teacher of the Year Banquet as a “Teacher of Promise.” The banquet was held in Wichita earlier this fall. 
 
“Teacher of Promise embodies excellence and Keeley will most certainly have her thumbprint on student success in her own classroom. I am pleased to see her honored in this way,” said Dr. William Anderson, assistant professor of education.

The Sterling College Criminal Justice program will host Nick Sowers, Rice County Sheriff-Elect, for its keynote lecture on Tuesday, November 19.

The Sterling College Criminal Justice program will host Nick Sowers, Rice County Sheriff-Elect, for its keynote lecture on Tuesday, November 19. The College will host Sowers at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall in Cooper Hall. The public is invited to attend this free event.

“We are thrilled to hear Nick share his vision for the Sheriff's Department. He has such a heart for Rice County. Nick truly is an exceptional role model for our criminal justice students,” said Dr. Mark Tremaine, associate professor of criminal justice.

Between regular competition tournaments, hosting an out-of-state tournament, hosting a Kansas State Fair event

Between regular competition tournaments, hosting an out-of-state tournament, hosting a Kansas State Fair event and publishing a speech, the Sterling College Debate and Forensics team under coach Ken Troyer has posted a busy fall season. 

The fall started in early September with the team hosting the annual Kansas State Fair Debate Exhibition. About 200 high school students attended the event which included an exhibition of this year’s high school debate topic demonstrated by four area high school teams.

Art can be more than just nice to look at it. Art can carry a message as well.

The current exhibit at the Sterling College Art/Media Center Gallery does both. Guest artist Joshua Cross's art series entitled “Doomscroll Snack” brings a message of overindulgence, mindless scrolling, and the reminder to put the devices down occasionally. The exhibit will run from November 8 through the end of the semester, December 13.
