John Knox Presbyterian Church Endowed Scholarship

The John Knox Presbyterian Church Endowed Scholarship was established in honor of John Knox who was a minister of the Christian gospel in the 1500s. Knox helped lead the Scottish Reformation and is considered the founder of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.

Criteria:

  • Full-time student for the year
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Member of the Presbyterian church

Evelyn Phinney Make a Difference Scholarship

The Evelyn Phinney Make a Difference Scholarship was established to help students who show a strong evidence of personal civic responsibility and have a sincere interest in promoting social justice. The scholarship was established in 1999 and has helped many students achieve their education goals.

Criteria:

  • Evidence of a strong sense of personal civic responsibility and sincere interest in promoting social justice
  • Intended major must be something other than the fine arts or athletic fields
  • Top 10% of high school graduation class, or maintained a college GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Good reputation among peers, teachers and community members for good moral character
  • Must be employed at least part-time
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Dr. Robert H. Thompson Endowed Mathematics and Natural Science Scholarship

This scholarship was created by Robert Thompson to help alleviate the costs of higher education for students interested in studying mathematics, physics or natural sciences. He and his late wife, Barbara, believe in Sterling’s mission to develop creative and thoughtful leaders who understand a maturing Christian faith and want to honor his time as math professor and department head at Sterling College.

Criteria:

  • Full-time student for the year
  • Major in mathematics, physics and/or natural science; and/or minor in mathematics and/or physics
  • Committed to completing their undergraduate education at Sterling College
  • Students may retain this scholarship through their senior (4th) year

Park Presbyterian Grant

The Park Presbyterian Grant is a financial award designed to assist Presbyterian students. Students receiving this grant must be an active member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation. Grant Recipients can receive up to $1000 per academic year. The grant is renewable up to three years as long as student submits required documents for renewal.

Criteria:

  • Active member of a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation
  • Enrolled at a qualifying school
  • Take the SAT/ACT exam no later than February of senior year in high school
  • Complete the FAFSA on or before April 1 for the coming academic year
  • Submit academic transcripts (high school and/or college)
  • Submit a letter from your Pastor (or Clerk of Session, or Director of Christian Education, if the pastor is your parent or this position is currently vacant) regarding your active membership with the church
  • All required documents are to be submitted to the office of financial aid

Bill and Betty (Bott) Calderwood Endowed Scholarship

Bill ’57 and Betty (Bott) ‘59 Calderwood created this scholarship to help provide an affordable Christian education at Sterling College. They believe in the mission of the College to develop creative and thoughtful leaders who understand a maturing Christian faith. The Calderwoods have been a vital part of the Sterling College community since their graduations. Multi-generations of their families have attended Sterling College.

Criteria:

  • Show demonstrated need.
  • Working part-time (minimum 10 hours/week) while at Sterling College.

Knight Family Scholarship

The Knight Family has established an annual scholarship for students who are incoming residential students who are enrolled in the business administration major at Sterling College. Preference will be given to students who are pursuing an entrepreneurship minor or concentration.

Criteria:

  • Incoming first-time freshman
  • Business administration major with a minor or concentration in entrepreneurship
  • Top 50% of his/her graduating class
  • Full-time each semester at Sterling College
  • Has been and will continue to be involved in leadership activities
  • Lives on campus

Scholarship is renewable for up to four years as long as student maintains 2.8 GPA and submits required documents each semester by due dates.
