Student Entrance Counseling

Entrance Counseling is a learning tool designed by the Department of Education to teach students about student loans and borrowing. This process is required for all students who use Direct Student Loans.

  1. Sign in using your FSA ID from your FAFSA
  2. Complete Entrance Counseling
  3. Click submit and print the confirmation page for your records

Student Master Promissory Note

The Master Promissory Note is a student's agreement to pay back the loans that they are borrowing. This process is required for all students who use Direct Student Loans.

  1. Sign in using your FSA ID from your FAFSA
  2. Complete Master Promissory Note for Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans
  3. Click submit and print the confirmation page for your records

Parent PLUS Loan Application

This application is based on the credit score of the parent. Approval results in the parent being able borrow as much money as the Cost of Attendance Budget will allow. Denial results in additional loan funds becoming available for the student based on their grade status. The Parent PLUS loan gives an auto answer at the time of application so you will know right away if you are approved or denied. The application will take 24-48 hours to process and reach the school for updates to the student's financial aid account. Any questions can be directed to the Financial Aid Office.

  2. Request a Direct PLUS Loan
  3. Complete Parent PLUS Loan Application

Parent PLUS Entrance Counseling

PLUS Counseling is a learning tool designed by the Department of Education and is required for parents whose application was approved based on reconsideration or those who are using an endorser.

  1. Sign in using Parent FSA ID from the FAFSA
  2. Complete PLUS Counseling
  3. Click submit and print the confirmation page for your records

Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note

The Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note is a parent's agreement to pay back the loans that they are borrowing and is required for all parents who wish to utilize this Loan.

  1. Sign in using your FSA ID from your FAFSA
  2. Complete PLUS MPN for Parents
  3. Click submit and print the confirmation page for your records

Alternative Loans

Students can choose to apply for Alternative Loans in order to receive additional funding for school. Sterling College does not recommend one lender over another.

  1. Use this site to compare different lenders
  2. Review other outside lenders as desired
  3. Contact Financial Aid with questions

Loan Adjustment

There are several different circumstances that might cause the student to want/need to change their loan amounts such as the receipt of outside scholarships. Below are forms that can be filled out to request these adjustments. Students have the right to change their loan amounts at any time up to 14 days after disbursement to the student account. All forms need to be signed in front of financial aid personnel.
