Sterling College Theatre presents one-act plays

Wednesday, May 4, 2016

The Sterling College theatre program will conclude the season with a presentation of student-directed one-act plays May 6-7 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. To fulfill requirements for their play directing class, Bryce Bassett of Cassoday, Kansas; Derrick Hogan of Rodeo, California; Cody Meins of Canon City, Colorado; Nate Sizemore of Clearwater, Kansas; and Cassidy Woodard of Abilene, Kansas, will each be directing a one-act play. The public is welcome to enjoy this free event.

“The one acts are a great evening of theatre that I look forward to every spring. Usually a mixture of comedy and drama, they actually serve as the final project for junior and senior theatre majors enrolled in the directing class. They are special not only because they are directed by students, but because the casts are often made up of non-theatre majors that have never set foot on stage. So, the audience members that attend most of our productions and have become accustomed to the familiar faces that usually grace our stage will get a new experience as well. The directors, as well as their casts, have been working very hard on developing the scenes, and I think this event will be a great way to finish up the year,” said Aaron Kennedy, assistant professor of theatre arts.

Students who will be acting in the productions include Alyssa Hershey of Wichita, Kansas; Elijah Klein of Valley Center, Kansas; Mishelle Kulick of Lake Elsinore, California; Tad Lafferty of El Dorado, Kansas; Wesley Lowrey of Topeka, Kansas; Xavier Madrigal of Newton, Kansas; Fayola Oyatayo of Princeton, Texas; Josiah Ray of Derby, Kansas; Phinehas Starks of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Alise Zerull of North Richland Hills, Texas; and Claire Zerull of North Richland Hills, Texas.
