Jack Shields

Jack graduated the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL in the Spring of 2020. He was then hired to be a Graduate Assistant Coach for the men’s basketball team at Reinhardt University. During his two years at Reinhardt, Jack earned his MFA in Creative Writing. Shortly after graduation, he was hired as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach here at Sterling College, a position he held for three seasons before being hired as an Assistant Professor here at the college.

Tami Schepmann

Tami has devoted the past 20 years to serving in K–12 public education, teaching various grades and subjects, and most recently leading as an administrator and instructional coach. She holds master’s degrees in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Administration, and Youth Development from Emporia State University and Kansas State University, respectively. Tami and her husband, Trent, have been blessed with two children, Teagan (16) and Tacy (12), who are active in sports, school, and their church community.

Vianey Ortega

Vianay likes to be called Vivi. She is from Jerome, which is a small farming town located in Southern Idaho and grew up on a cattle ranch with her parents, older brother, and younger sister. A few of her hobbies include paddle boarding, working on the ranch, and watching baseball/softball games. Vivi earned her bachelor’s degree at Tabor College where she also played softball and graduated in May of 2023. Vivi then came to Sterling College to get her master’s degree in athletic training and graduated in May of 2025.

Ashley Laudermilk

Ashley holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and Industry from Kansas State University and a Master of Business Administration with a Marketing Concentration from Emporia State University. She is passionate about helping students connect classroom learning to real-world business applications and strives to foster an encouraging, value-driven environment that reflects her faith and commitment to service.

Dr. Stephen English

Stephen rejoins the Sterling College faculty ranks after serving in the same role from 2019 to 2023. Stephen earned his bachelor’s in religious studies from Prairie College, Etobicoke, Ontario, M.A. and MFA from the University of Oklahoma. Stephen enjoys theatre, music, traveling, cooking and reading.

Dr. Brett Ehrman

Brett shares he grew up in a Christian home as the youngest of three children and has three nephews and one niece. He has always been passionate about learning and helping others learn, especially regarding math, so he began college with the goal of becoming a math professor. Brett received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Lynchburg and later received my PhD in Mathematics from the University of Kansas. Brett researched the stability of nonlinear waves that arise as solutions to partial differential equations; and enjoys presenting said research at conferences.
